Very Scarce Chinese Made Arisaka T.30 Carbine ("North China Type 12")

Caliber: 6.5 x 50, semi-rimmed

Price: $2675

Inventory # ari_0087

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Very scarce Chinese made Arisaka T. 30 carbine made during the World War Two, either for the Japanese army, or for their Chinese allies ("North China Type 12"). The receiver displays a five petaled cherry blossom mon. The arsenal mon is stamped on the receiver rail, just behind the serial number. The carbine is characterized by many early features: very good quality machining and metal finish, nicely finished stock and the original ramp and leaf rear sight. Hook type safety on the back of the bolt. One piece stock. Matching assembly numbers (please, note that assembly numbers are different than a serial number on the receiver). The matching assembly numbers are stamped on the buttplate, rear sights, bolt, bayonet lug, barrel band and on the magazine floor plate (inside). No assembly numbers are visible on all the other parts of the carbine. All the numbers are factory original, and they were never restamped. Complete with the cleaning rod. Manufactured with no provision for the receiver dust cover. This type of carbine was produced in China in the early years of the Japanese occupation. The 12th year of Showa would give a date, "1937" (at least for the model designation). Eventually, this model was replaced with the North China Type 19, which was a Chinese manufactured Arisaka T.38. Type 19 was characterized by many "last ditch", or late war features: crude machining and metal finish, crudely finished stock, simplified rear sight, etc. This Type 12 carbine is of much higher quality than more common Type 19 carbines. Overall length is 38.75 inch. Barrel length: 19 inch. CONDITION: Excellent. 96% of original blue finish is still present on metal. The stock is in original finish with some handling marks and light scratches. There is a small chip on the left side of the stock, just in front of the bolt release lever. Fine bore with strong rifling. Strong action. All the markings and numbers on metal are clearly visible. All the internal parts of the carbine are in excellent condition with no obvious wear. No import markings. Very scarce Chinese made example of T.30 carbine! Serial# 154XX.

Unusual, Very Early Production Japanese Arisaka T.30 Rifle

Caliber: 6.5 x 50, semi-rimmed

Price: $1675

Inventory # ari_0084

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Scarce Japanese T.30 "Hook Safety" Arisaka infantry rifle. The rifle was manufactured by Tokyo arsenal, as indicated by markings on the left side of the receiver. This seems to be a very early production rifle with a four digit serial number. The rifle features an unusual, very early production style peep rear sight calibrated to 1500 meter! The Imperial Chrysanthemum is still on the receiver, but was over stamped with three little circles, which indicates that the rifle was exported from Japan (hard to notice). The left side of the receiver ring displays a circle ("a second class weapon, accepted for use on the emergency basis"). Many Arisaka T.30 rifles were sold to Russia and to the Great Britain during the World War One. They were still used by Finland and some Eastern European countries after the Great War. "Type 30", in Japanese characters, is stamped on the receiver. Two piece buttstock. Short handguard. Inverted "V" front sight without guards. Flat, forged buttplate. Hook type safety on the back of the bolt. Complete with original cleaning rod (the tip of the rod is missing). No import markings. Overall length is 50.5 inch. Barrel length: 31 inch. CONDITION: Low fine, with 87% of blue finish still on metal. Some blue finish is turning to brownish color. The buttplate is covered by light brown patina. The rifle shows an honest service wear. The stock is solid with usual handling marks, dings and scratches. No cracks in the stock. Original finish on both, metal and wood. Mismatched serial numbers. The bore is in very good condition with strong rifling and some darkness in the grooves. Very strong action. All the internal parts of the rifle are in very good condition, with no obvious wear. All the markings on metal are clearly visible. Unusual, very early production Japanese T.30 "Hook Safety" Arisaka infantry rifle. Serial# 82XX (the lowest serial number I have ever seen on Arisaka T.30 rifles!).

Scarce Mexican Contract Japanese Arisaka T.38 Rifle (Imperial Russian Issue?)

Caliber: 7 x 57 mm, rimless

Price: $3500

Inventory # ari_0085

Pictures:

DESCRIPTION: Scarce Mexican contract Japanese Arisaka T. 38 infantry rifle! Mexican government ordered 40,000 Arisaka T.38 rifles and carbine in 1910. The rifles were badly needed by the Mexican army, as the latter faced the shortage of Mauser rifles during the Mexican revolutions. Only about 4,600 of such rifles were actually delivered to Mexico, as the country government was overthrown soon after the order was placed. The remaining rifles (about 35,400) were placed in storage in Japan till 1915, when they were sold to the Imperial Russia. It is believed that the Mexican T.38 rifles with prefixes from C through M were the ones shipped to Russia (including this one!). Thus, the Mexican Arisaka rifles were issued to the Imperial Russian army during the Great War. Consequently, some rifles of this pattern were captured by Austro-Hungarian and German forces. After the war ended in 1918, some Mexican Arisaka rifles were issued to several countries of Eastern and Central Europe (Poland, Czechoslovakia, Finland and possibly, some other countries). Few rifles of this pattern were brought to the USA by returning American soldiers after the World War Two. The Mexican contract rifles were practically identical with the Japanese service weapons, except for the markings and caliber. The rear sight calibration was modified accordingly. The nosecap was altered to accept standard Mexican bayonet. The receiver ring displays wording, "Republica Mexicana" over a crest of Mexico and a date, "1913". There is a liberty cap and "RM" stamped on the barrel near the breech. The left side of the receiver rail displays a serial number, with "M" prefix. The rifle has a very nice, original finish on the metal and was not refurbished! Matching serial numbers on the receiver and stock. Mismatched serial numbers on the bolt and the magazine floor plate. No serial numbers are stamped on all the remaining parts, which is correct for this model. All the numbers are factory original, and they were never restamped. Two piece buttstock. Inverted "V" front sight without guards. The rear sight is calibrated to 2300 meter. Short handguard. Flat, forged buttplate. The receiver dust cover and the cleaning rod are missing. Manufactured at the Koishikawa factory. CONDITION: Low fine, with 86% of original blue still on metal. The blue finish is well preserved. Some finish is turning to brownish color (mostly on the trigger guard, magazine floor plate and barrel bands). The stock is in original finish with some handling marks, dings and scratches. No cracks to the wood. The bore is in excellent condition, with strong and shiny rifling. Very strong action. All the markings on metal are clearly visible. All the internal parts of the rifle are in fine condition with no obvious wear. No import markings. A nice example of a scarce Mexican contract Arisaka T.38 rifle! Serial# M13XX.

Unusual Japanese Arisaka T.30 Carbine

Caliber: 6.5 x 50, semi-rimmed

Price: $1275

Inventory # ari_0081

DESCRIPTION: Scarce Japanese T.30 "Hook Safety" Arisaka carbine. The carbine was manufactured by Tokyo arsenal, as indicated by a symbol stamped behind the serial number. The Imperial Chrysanthemum is still on the receiver, but was over stamped with three little circles, which indicates that the rifle was exported from Japan (hard to notice). Many Arisaka rifles and carbines were sold to Russia and to the Great Britain during the World War One. They were still used by Finland and some Eastern European countries after the Great War. This is most likely one of such carbines. This carbine is a little bit unusual as it has a short handguard (originally, T.30 carbines did not have a handguard), and rear sights calibrated to 2000 meter, like in the T.38 carbine (originally, T.30 carbine had rear sights calibrated only to 1500 meter). The barrel band is also similar to those used in T.38 carbines. At one point the carbine was used with a turned down bolt, as indicated by a cut on the right side of the stock. "Type 30", in Japanese characters, is stamped on the receiver ring. Matching serial numbers are stamped on the receiver and bayonet lug. The bolt displays a mismatched serial number. No numbers are stamped on all the remaining parts, which is correct for this model. There are several assembly numbers stamped on different parts of the carbine (on the magazine cover, rear sight and on some other small parts of the bolt). Two piece buttstock. Inverted "V" front sight with side guards. Flat, forged buttplate. Hook type safety on the back of the bolt. The cleaning rod is missing. No import markings. Barrel length: 19 inch. Overall length: 38.50 inch. CONDITION: Very good, with 82% of blue turning to brown patina in some places. The blue is nice and crisp on the receiver and barrel. The blue on the trigger guard, magazine's floorplate and barrel bands is turning to a brown color patina. Occasional spots of light pitting on the barrel band and on the band springs. The buttplate is covered by brown patina. The stock shows some handling marks and light dings. The left side of the forestock has a hairline crack. The wood was refinished long time ago. Excellent bore with strong and shiny rifling. Very strong action. Mechanically, the carbine is in fine condition. All the markings on metal are clearly visible. All the internal parts of the carbine are in fine condition with no obvious wear. No import markings. Very scarce Arisaka T.30 carbine with some unusual modifications! Serial# 1826XX.
