DESCRIPTION: Very decorative 19th Century Balkan/Turkish flintlock pistol. The style of the pistol reflects both, Oriental and European influences. Round barrel. Miquelet lock. The lock plate does not show any markings. Balkan style stock decorated with geometrical pattern carving. Iron counter plate and trigger guard. Brass barrel tang with nice engraving. Non-functional wooden ramrod is a part of the stock. Simple, brass wire barrel band. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in the Balkans. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine, all original condition. All the iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel, are covered with brown patina. Some roughness on the left side of the barrel, near the stock line (please, see pictures). The stock is in fine good condition with some minor handling marks and light dings. There is a hairline crack in the right/front part of the stock, just in front of the lockplate (please, see pictures). The miquelet lock works fine. The bore is in very good condition. DESCRIPTION: Good quality Greek 19th Century miquelet pistol. The style of the pistol reflects both, Oriental and European influences. Miquelet lock. The lock plate does not show any markings. Typical Balkan style stock is covered with brass plates, that are decorated with engraved floral and geometrical motifs. Brass butt with nice engravings. Brass trigger guard. Half-octagonal, half-round barrel. The upper part of the barrel displays some floral style decoration and a brass gunsmith mark (please, see pictures). Non-functional, decorative ramrod is a part of the stock. Two brass barrel bands. The pistol is of considerably higher quality than usually encountered. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in the Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine condition. All the iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel, are covered with some patina. The stock is in fine condition with some dings and handling marks. There is a small crack in the brass plate on the left side of the stock between the counter screws. Some dents to the front brass barrel band (please, see pictures). Half- round, half-octagonal barrel with engraved and silver inlaid floral motifs. French style lock plate with some light engraving. French style flintlock. These parts were very often imported to the Ottoman Empire from Western Europe. Brass butt, trigger guard and counter plate (all with some engraving). Simple iron ramrod. The upper part of the buttstock shows some carving. The middle part of the buttstock is covered with leather. The barrel bands are replacements. The stock was made from two pieces of wood. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall very good+ condition. All the iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel, are covered with light, uncleaned patina. The stock is in very good condition with some handling marks and dings. Minor wear to wood near the brass butt. DESCRIPTION: Profusely decorated late 18th/early 19th century Turkish flintlock blunderbuss pistol. Some sources identify this type of rifle-style firearm as a "Knee Pistol". The name came from the way of firing the gun by the horse rider, when the butt was pressed against the knee. Round, Spanish-style barrel, with beautiful deep engraving in its rear part, and fantastic Islamic style gold inlays (koftgari) in its front part (please, see pictures). The barrel tang also displays a deep engraving. French style lockplate displays lightly engraved floral motifs and the gunmaker's signature. French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to Turkey from Western Europe. Some light floral engraving on the hammer and on some other part of the flintlock. Typical Turkish blunderbuss style stock with a beautifully shaped carbine buttstock. The entire stock is decorated in floral motifs with inletted brass wire. Iron buttplate, trigger guard and counter plate. The blunderbuss pistol is of considerably higher quality than usually encountered. CONDITION: Excellent. Beautifully preserved engraving and gold inlays on the barrel. Some light patina on the flint lock and on the lock plate. The iron trigger guard and butt plate are well preserved. The butt plate shows some occasional gray patina. The stock is in excellent condition with some small handling marks. Very small chip of wood is missing from the lower part of the butt stock, next to the butt plate (please, see pictures). Some decorative brass wires on the stock are getting loose. The name came from the way of firing the gun by the horse rider, when the butt was pressed against the knee. The reference books usually identify this weapon as either Azari, or Persian. The pistol is decorated with ornamental motifs. Typical Azari/Persian blunderbuss style stock with carbine buttstock. The stock is decorated with inlaid bone and bronze pins. Bone buttplate. Good quality barrel with maker markings and some engraving. The pistol was either manufactured without the barrel band, or the latter is missing. No provision for the ramrod. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine, all original condition. The iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel and the miquelet lock are covered with brown patina. The front counter screw is missing. The stock shows some handling marks and light dings, but no cracks. Some minor wear to the decorations on the stock, with some small pieces missing. DESCRIPTION: Turkish, or Middle Eastern 18/19th Century miquelet pistol. The pistol style copies both, European and Oriental patterns. The lock is similar to many locks found in Turkish miquelet muskets. The lightly carved stock may be of Turkish, or Middle Eastern origins. The miquelet hammer is also lightly engraved. Round barrel. Beautifully engraved back of the barrel. Some brass inlays on the barrel. Iron trigger guard shows a hand scratched number (perhaps a social security number of a previous owner, please, see pictures). Brass butt. Non-functional wooden ramrod is a part of the stock. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine condition. All the iron parts of the pistol, including the barrel, are covered with brown patina. Some cleaning marks are visible on the barrel. The stock is nice and without any cracks. Very good bore. Miquelet lock is in working order. The pistol does not show any repairs. Overall length: 20 inch. Barrel length: 13.5 inch.

The lock plates and hammer are lightly engraved. Beautifully engraved backs of the barrels. Much nicer Turkish flintlock pistols, than usually seen! The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in the Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. CONDITION: The pistols are in overall fine, all original condition. Several pieces of silver wire inlays are missing from the stocks. The stocks are nice with only couple of hairline surface cracks. Very good bores. European style flintlocks are in working order. DESCRIPTION: Beautiful 19th century Caucasian/Cossack men's belt! Natural color high quality leather with elaborately decorated six silver niello fittings. The belt was an essential part of the Caucasian dress. The pistols and kindjals were usually attached to the belt in the society where every man was a warrior. No maker's signature is present on the silver fittings. Similar style belts were manufactured and used in both, Chechnia and Dagestan. This type of belt was also used by Russian Cossacks. CONDITION: Fine. The leather is still soft and flexible. The silver fittings are well preserved. Very attractive Caucasian belt! (Ref. "Chechen Arms" , by Isa Askhabov, pp.102-133 and pp.167-169).

Some sources identify this type of rifle-style firearm as a "Knee Pistol". The name came from the way of firing the gun by the horse rider, when the butt was pressed against the knee. Round, Spanish-style barrel, with beautiful deep engraving in its rear part, and fantastic Islamic style gold inlays (koftgari) in its front part (please, see pictures). The barrel tang also displays a deep engraving. French style lockplate displays lightly engraved floral motifs and the gunmaker's signature. French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to Turkey from Western Europe. Some light floral engraving on the hammer and on some other part of the flintlock. Some sources identify this type of the rifle-style firearm as a "Knee Pistol". The name came from the way of firing the gun by the horse rider, when the butt was pressed against the knee. The reference books usually identify this weapon as either Azari, or Persian. The pistol is decorated with ornamental motifs. Typical Azari/Persian blunderbuss style stock with carbine buttstock. The stock is decorated with inlaid bone and bronze pins. Bone buttplate. Good quality barrel with maker markings and some engraving. The pistol was either manufactured without the barrel band, or the latter is missing. No provision for the ramrod. CONDITION: The pistol is in overall fine, all original condition. The stock shows some handling marks and light dings, but no cracks. Some minor wear to the decorations on the stock, with some small pieces missing. The lock needs adjustment, as the hammer does not stay open. The bore is in very good condition. The pistol does not show any repairs. All the parts are original to the pistol. Very Decorative Balkan/Turkish Flintlock Pistol Caliber: 18 mm Price: $2475 Inventory # apf_0052 Pictures:	DESCRIPTION: Very decorative 19th Century Balkan/Turkish flintlock pistol. The style of the pistol reflects both, Oriental and European influences. Half-octagonal, half-round barrel. French style lock plate with unrecognizable markings (they meant to be unrecognizable as most of the gun makers in the Balkan region were illiterate at the time). French style, very good quality flintlock. These parts were very often imported to Turkey from Western Europe. Typical Balkan style stock decorated with inlaid wire, mother of pearl and brass/iron plates. Iron counter plate, trigger guard and butt. The latter displays nice engravings. Non-functional wooden ramrod is a part of the stock. The pistols of this pattern were used extensively in many wars in the Balkans, including the Greek uprisings. Turkish/ Middle Eastern Miquelet Pistol Caliber: 16 mm Price: $1475 Inventory # apf_0034 Pictures:	DESCRIPTION: Turkish, or Middle Eastern 18/19th Century miquelet pistol. The pistol style copies both, European and Oriental patterns. The lock is similar to many locks found in Turkish miquelet muskets. The lightly carved stock may be of Turkish, or Middle Eastern origins. The miquelet hammer is also lightly engraved. Round barrel. Beautifully engraved back of the barrel. Some brass inlays on the barrel. Iron trigger guard shows a hand scratched number (perhaps a social security number of a previous owner, please, see pictures). Brass butt. Beautiful Caucasian/Cossack Men's Belt (19th Century) Price: $1675 Inventory # dag_0066 Pictures:	DESCRIPTION: Beautiful 19th century Caucasian/Cossack men's belt! Natural color high quality leather with elaborately decorated six silver niello fittings. The belt was an essential part of the Caucasian dress. The pistols and kindjals were usually attached to the belt in the society where every man was a warrior. No maker's signature is present on the silver fittings. Similar style belts were manufactured and used in both, Chechnia and Dagestan. This type of belt was also used by Russian Cossacks. CONDITION: Fine. The leather is still soft and flexible.
